The Government of the Bahamas and the African Export-Import Bank [Afreximbank] recently agreed for the Bahamas to host the 31st Afreximbank Annual Meetings [AAM] and the third edition of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum [ACTIF]. This historic event, set for June 12-14, 2024, in Nassau, marks the first time the meetings will take place in the Caribbean.
Professor Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, highlighted the strategic importance of this event in strengthening ties between Africa and the CARICOM countries, especially as several are predicted to be among the world’s fastest-growing economies. The upcoming meetings will focus on the theme “Owning Our Destiny: Economic Prosperity on the Platform of Global Africa,” addressing the challenges and opportunities for enhancing economic cooperation and development between these regions.
Prime Minister Philip Davis of the Bahamas emphasized the significance of hosting the AAM and ACTIF as a step towards greater economic, trade, and cultural links between African and Caribbean nations. He stressed the importance of a unified approach to global issues like climate change.
The event will include a series of high-level discussions and cultural showcases, aiming to foster greater economic self-reliance and cooperation amidst rising global economic protectionism.
