AI Action Figures Privacy Warning from Kaspersky

As the latest viral trend sweeps social media where users upload personal photos and details to create hyper-realistic AI action figures or dolls. Kaspersky is urging the public to think twice before sharing sensitive information online.

While the trend may seem harmless and entertaining, it poses serious concerns around digital safety. Submitting personal data such as nicknames, job titles, hobbies, or family details to AI platforms can open users up to cyber threats like identity theft, phishing scams, and misuse of biometric information.

A recent Kaspersky survey reveals a contradiction in how users approach online privacy. In the Middle East, Turkiye, and Africa [META] region, 47% of respondents cover their webcams for security, and 42% rely on incognito browsing. Yet, 52% admitted to sharing personal information with unverified websites to access games and quizzes highlighting a risky disconnect between awareness and action.

“Trends like AI-generated action figures or anime-style portraits may be fun, but users must stay mindful of the risks,” says Brandon Muller, Technical Expert for the MEA region at Kaspersky. “These platforms can collect data that, in the wrong hands, may be used to impersonate individuals or launch social engineering attacks.”

To stay safe, Kaspersky recommends the following best practices:
  • Check privacy policies: Understand how your data will be used, stored, and shared before using any AI platform.
  • Limit personal data sharing: Avoid uploading sensitive information such as addresses, financial details, or identifiable photos.
  • Use generic visuals: Choose non-identifiable or low-resolution images instead of close-up selfies to protect biometric data.
  • Be selective with permissions: Only allow apps to access what’s necessary; avoid those asking for excessive permissions.
  • Install trusted security software: Tools like Kaspersky Premium help detect and prevent digital threats.
  • Stay informed: Keep up with cybersecurity trends to make smarter decisions online.
  • Monitor your accounts: Regularly check for suspicious activity, especially after engaging with new online tools or platforms.

“In today’s digital world, enjoying online trends shouldn’t come at the cost of personal privacy,” adds Muller. “With the right precautions, users can stay protected while still having fun.”
