Africa is poised to capitalize on AI, with its potential already influencing various sectors such as finance, agriculture, healthcare, and mobility. Analysts predict a 30% annual growth in Africa’s AI market, expecting it to reach $17 billion by 2030. With a population of 1.5 billion 70% under 30, Africa faces challenges like talent development and infrastructure but holds immense promise for AI acceleration.
The AI Everything Expo by GITEX AFRICA in Marrakech, from May 29-31, 2024, will be a pivotal event, drawing global tech giants like Microsoft, IBM, Huawei, Nvidia, and Google, as well as numerous ambitious startups. These participants aim to transform Africa with AI-driven products and services.
Microsoft, partnering with AI model producers like UAE’s G42, is leading the AI investment drive. Their $1.5 billion investment in G42 aims to boost AI development in emerging markets, including Africa. This collaboration will be showcased at GITEX AFRICA 2024, featuring Presight, a G42 company focused on big data analytics through generative AI.
Adel Alsharji, COO of Presight, notes that Africa is rapidly adopting AI, which is essential for its economic growth and local problem-solving. He predicts a significant increase in AI-related jobs, highlighting AI’s role in potentially adding $13 trillion to the global economy by 2030.
The AI Everything Expo will not only showcase these developments but also feature discussions with leaders like Dragoș Tudorache of the Renew Europe Group and Mactar Seck of the UNECA. Innovations across multiple sectors will be demonstrated, illustrating AI’s broad impact.
Among the notable startups, Clinify from Nigeria will present its electronic medical record platform, aiming to digitize health records across Africa, where most are still paper-based. This initiative seeks to improve healthcare accessibility, addressing the stark contrast in doctor-patient ratios compared to developed countries.
Hosted under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and organized by KAOUN International, this year’s GITEX AFRICA aims to continue the transformative discussions and collaborations started in its 2023 debut.
