Airtel Africa, ASN Partner to Power Up 2Africa Cable

Airtel Telesonic, the wholesale arm of Airtel Africa, has activated the 2Africa submarine cable system, enhancing connectivity across the African continent. This initial phase connects Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, promising high-speed, reliable internet access. The 2Africa cable, one of the largest subsea projects globally, aims to interconnect Africa, Europe, and Asia, supporting Africa’s digital transformation.

Airtel Telesonic partnered with Alcatel Submarine Networks [ASN] to achieve this milestone. ASN, an industry leader in optical submarine networks, provided the latest SLTE platform [PSI-SUB] for the project. This innovative platform features a grid-less, modular, and colorless architecture, ready to accommodate next-generation transponders.

PD Sarma, CEO of Airtel Telesonic, praised the achievement, highlighting Airtel’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and investing in advanced infrastructure. Paul Gabla, ASN’s Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, expressed pride in supporting Airtel with cutting-edge SLTE equipment.

The 2Africa cable is poised to transform Africa’s digital landscape, offering unprecedented opportunities for connectivity and growth. Airtel Africa remains dedicated to delivering innovative solutions to meet its customers’ evolving needs.
