Binance Urges Women to Lead in Web3 Africa

Binance, the global blockchain ecosystem behind the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, hosted an International Women’s Day [IWD] event on March 8, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya. The event aimed to promote financial empowerment and increase female participation in blockchain and crypto.

Bringing together 300 women from the local community. The gathering featured educational workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities focused on financial independence and leadership in Web3. Attendees engaged with industry experts, exploring ways to shape the future of digital assets.

The Nairobi event was part of Binance’s global IWD initiative spanning ten locations, including Ho Chi Minh City, Dubai, Milan, Madrid, Cape Town, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Mexico City, Lomé, and Astana.

Driving Diversity in Crypto

“Binance is committed to gender diversity in crypto and tech, with women making up 40% of our workforce and half of our marketing team,” said Rachel Conlan, Binance’s Chief Marketing Officer. “While progress has been made, more needs to be done. Our IWD events aim to inspire and empower women by breaking down barriers to industry knowledge and participation.”

Panelists shared insights on overcoming challenges in the male-dominated blockchain sector, emphasizing resilience, networking, and community support. Discussions also addressed the importance of diverse voices in tech and the role women play in driving blockchain innovation.

Equipping Women for Success in Web3

Speakers provided practical strategies to safeguard against crypto fraud and scams, underscoring the need for education and vigilance in digital finance. A strong call to action encouraged women to take ownership of their financial futures, leverage their skills in Web3, and position Africa as a leader in the digital economy.

“Whatever your expertise, be it law, finance, or tech, use it to find opportunities in Web3. Show up, take initiative, and claim your space in this industry,” urged panelist Mercy Njane.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of empowerment, with participants eager to continue their journey in blockchain and crypto. Binance remains dedicated to fostering diversity and supporting women in tech worldwide.
