Founders Factory Africa, a prominent early-stage tech investor in Africa, recently celebrated a milestone as BuuPass, one of its portfolio companies, completed the acquisition of Quickbus, a key player in the bus ticketing sector in Nigeria and South Africa.
BuuPass operates as a B2B2C mobility marketplace, allowing users to search, compare, and book travel tickets across various platforms, including its website, mobile apps on Apple and Android, and a universal USSD system accessible on any mobile phone. Since its inception in 2016, BuuPass has sold over 6 million travel tickets, generating over $100 million in goods sold, and has served more than 16 million passengers.
Eunice Wambui, Investment Principal at Founders Factory Africa, expressed pride in BuuPass’s expansion, noting its impact on customers’ daily lives and its progression towards becoming a pan-African travel booking platform. The acquisition marks BuuPass’s strategic entry into South Africa and Nigeria, adding over 5,000 new routes and integrating more than 100 bus operators and key online distribution partners like FNB, Vodacom, and MTN.
