TikTok Removes 360,000 Harmful Videos in Kenya

TikTok latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report for Q2 2024 reveals significant strides in content moderation across Kenya. TikTok removed over 360,000 harmful videos for violating community standards, representing 0.3% of all uploads in Kenya during the reporting period.

TikTok proactively removed 99.1% of harmful videos in Kenya before user reports, with 95% taken down within 24 hours. The platform also banned 60,465 accounts, including 57,262 likely belonging to underage users.

“These findings highlight TikTok’s proactive measures to protect users and uphold content integrity in Kenya,” the report notes. “Our goal is to provide a safe space for creative expression. With advanced technologies, we can detect harmful content at a higher rate and faster pace than ever before.”

Globally, TikTok removed over 178 million harmful videos in June 2024 alone. 144 million were taken down via automated systems. The platform’s global proactive detection rate has reached 98.2%. It reflects TikTok’s investment in cutting-edge technology that reduces the need for human moderation and minimizes moderators’ exposure to harmful content.
