KCB Foundation Boosts Kisii Youth Employment

Youth in Kisii County are set to benefit from a major initiative by the KCB Foundation, aimed at equipping them with technical and vocational skills. This follows the signing of a partnership between the KCB Foundation and the Kisii County Government.

KES 50 Million Pledged for the Youth

Under the agreement, KCB Foundation will match the county government’s investment of KES 25 million for youth technical skills and job creation, bringing the total investment to KES 50 million. This partnership is part of KCB Foundation’s ongoing efforts to spur economic growth by addressing youth unemployment and supporting the creation of micro, small, and medium enterprises [MSMEs] through vocational training.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo emphasized that the youth’s economic empowerment is a key focus for KCB Group, aimed at fostering development by leveraging MSME growth to drive job creation.

“As KCB Foundation, we take pride in our flagship 2Jiajiri program, which seeks to formalize the informal sector and make it more appealing to the youth, while promoting socio-economic development at the county level. In addition to skills training, we will provide access to capital, capacity-building, and mentorship through our Business Development services, empowering enterprise owners to successfully manage their businesses,” said Njonjo.

Youth Empowered to Drive County Growth

Kisii County Governor Simba Arati expressed his commitment to delivering on his promises to the people of Kisii. Noting that this partnership will empower the youth not just with skills but also with the means to contribute to the county’s economic growth.

“We are not just empowering our youth with technical skills. We are catalyzing the economic prospects of our MSMEs through strategic training and access to capital, ensuring their success. MSMEs are the backbone of our local economy, and by supporting them, we are creating jobs and attracting further investment.” Said Governor Arati.

The youth will undergo training through KCB Foundation’s 2Jiajiri program at National Industrial Training Authority [NITA] certified institutions. Along with technical skills, they will receive training in entrepreneurship, financial management, and access to startup and working capital. In addition to asset financing for the businesses they establish.

Additionally, the Kisii County Government will support industrial attachments, internships, and create employment opportunities through partnerships with both the public and private sectors. The bank will facilitate a smooth transition into the workforce for trained youth.

Since its inception in 2007, KCB Foundation has been dedicated to promoting sustainable development, reducing poverty, and improving community well-being through various initiatives. These included its flagship programs in education, agriculture, and vocational training like 2Jiajiri.
