Roam & Keep It Cool Electrifies Cold-Chain Food Delivery

In a strategic partnership aimed at tackling food waste and strengthening supply chains, Kenyan electric mobility company Roam and cold-chain logistics provider Keep It Cool have launched the country’s first fully electric cold-chain delivery network.

The initiative integrates Roam’s electric motorcycles into Keep It Cool’s existing cold-chain system. They already deliver over 250,000 kg of fresh food weekly across Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Mombasa. The pilot phase includes five Roam Air motorcycles, designed and built locally, that offer a 75% reduction in fuel costs and zero tailpipe emissions. These makes them a cost-effective and environmentally sound transport solution for Kenyan businesses.

This collaboration addresses one of Kenya’s pressing challenges post-harvest food loss. It affects nearly half of fish and poultry products before they reach markets. Keep It Cool’s solar-powered cold storage hubs and digital logistics platform link small producers directly with retailers. They have improved efficiency and reduced reliance on middlemen.

Clean Logistics

By closing the last-mile delivery gap with electric motorcycles. The partnership enables a fully clean cold-chain system from harvest to retail. It improves the resilience and affordability of food supply networks.

So far, Keep It Cool has helped more than 5,600 fisherfolk increase their incomes by over 15%. They have reduced food loss by 98% for more than 1.5 million kg of produce. The integration of electric mobility is expected to further strengthen logistics while reducing operational costs for small businesses.

Both companies are scaling their operations in Kenya. Keep It Cool is building the country’s largest solar-powered cold-chain hub with a 70-tonne capacity. It aims to reach 1.6 million people by 2030. Roam continues to expand its charging infrastructure and recently launched a new generation of its electric motorcycle. This motorcycle is adapted to local market needs.

“Electric transport is not just about reducing emissions—it’s about creating real economic value. This partnership proves that clean logistics can be practical, scalable, and locally built.” Says Elijah Gakomo, Sales Executive, Roam.

Abigail Gichigi, Operations Director, Keep It Cool: “We’re preventing hundreds of tonnes of food waste each year by improving cold storage and delivery. With Roam’s electric motorcycles, we can now extend our reach while lowering our carbon footprint and operational costs.”

The partnership offers a replicable model for African markets looking to modernize logistics while investing in local solutions that support small businesses, reduce waste, and promote clean growth.
