Kenya Power Commits to Green Energy Transition

Kenya Power has introduced a Sustainability Strategy to guide its transition towards more sustainable and responsible business operations. This plan outlines measures to minimize the company’s environmental impact, promote inclusivity and stakeholder well-being. It will also ensure efficient use of resources, and uphold ethical corporate practices.

The strategy focuses on actionable steps to address climate change. It includes promoting e-mobility and e-cooking technologies, sourcing more clean energy, and developing environmentally friendly infrastructure. These initiatives aim to create a greener and more resilient energy ecosystem.

Board Chairperson Joy Brenda Masinde highlighted the strategic and ethical need for sustainability, assuring that the Board will guide the company to balance economic ambitions with the well-being of future generations. “This commitment will strengthen our competitiveness and operational resilience,” she added.

As a national electricity distributor with operations in all regions of Kenya, Kenya Power acknowledges its dependence on both environmental and human resources. The strategy underscores the company’s responsibility to preserve these resources for future generations while maintaining continuity in its operations.

The Sustainability Strategy aligns with key global goals, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs], including:

  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Goal 13: Climate Action
  • Goal 15: Life on Land
  • Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
  • Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Through this initiative, Kenya Power reaffirms its dedication to sustainable growth, environmental stewardship, and community development.
