Kinyua Wins, Safaricom Empowers Youth in Tech

Safaricom awarded Joseph Kinyua, the final grand prize of the ‘Wai Ndai’ Challenge a brand-new Suzuki Alto. The competition, a three-month online gaming challenge, engaged participants in puzzles, arcade, and action games, offering daily cash prizes and a monthly grand reward.

Kinyua was awarded during the Safaricom Hook Circle Bootcamp at Kenyatta University. This two-day event that brought together over 2,500 young people to explore career growth, cultural engagement, and, most notably, advancements in technology.

Themed Expert-Led Masterclasses

The Safaricom Hook Circle Bootcamp provided young participants to gain industry insights and hands-on experience in technology-driven careers. The event featured expert-led masterclasses under three core themes:

Technology Hook – Focused on digital skills and emerging tech sessions led by industry leaders such as Huawei, Transsion [Tecno & Infinix], Google – Gemini, and Power Learn Project. Topics covered included coding, artificial intelligence, and tech entrepreneurship, equipping attendees with practical knowledge for a future in technology.

Career Hook – Designed to guide young professionals in navigating job markets and entrepreneurship. This career segment featured insights from Brighter Monday, Wowzi, Trace Academia, Avunja, and Twiva. Participants explored strategies for job applications, freelancing, and leveraging digital platforms to advance their careers.

Culture Hook – Centered on creative and digital content monetization. This segment saw partners like Baze Radio, Boomplay, and Outlook share strategies for breaking into gaming, art, and fashion industries.

    Beyond career and tech development, the bootcamp emphasized holistic growth. Sessions on financial literacy, led by Absa’s Ready to Work Program and Old Mutual, alongside mental health awareness by Chiromo Hospital, ensured a well-rounded learning experience.
