Konza Technopolis, BPO Association Partner to Make Kenya a Top Outsourcing Hub

Konza Technopolis and the Business Process Outsourcing Association of Kenya [BPOAK] have partnered to promote Kenya as a leading destination for business outsourcing. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU], aims to attract BPO companies by developing supportive policies and enhancing digital skills among young people to boost their employability.

John Paul Okwiri, at the signing ceremony, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting it as a strategic move to position Kenya as a top investment hub. He emphasized the combination of Konza’s strengths and national capabilities to achieve this goal.

BPOAK, which represents Kenya’s BPO sector, sees this partnership as particularly beneficial. Roselyn Maundu, BPOAK’s Chairperson, noted the advantages of Konza’s Special Economic Zone status, which includes ready-to-use infrastructure facilitating easy business operations for its members.

Kenya’s appeal as a BPO destination is growing, supported by its robust internet infrastructure, skilled workforce, and high English proficiency. According to Maundu, Kenya is competitive due to its digital workforce, academic output, and English language skills, making it an attractive market for BPO investments.

Konza Technopolis is a central component of Kenya’s Vision 2030, aiming to evolve the country into a digitally driven economy through a sustainable smart city and innovation ecosystem. Okwiri highlighted that Konza is well-prepared to support BPO businesses with its advanced infrastructure and trained digital workforce.

Despite the global BPO market’s vast size, Africa’s share remains small, limited by inadequate infrastructure and lack of coordinated marketing and policy support. This new partnership intends to overcome these barriers, enhancing infrastructure access and skilled labor availability through initiatives like the Jitume digital program.
