Samsung Electronics has unveiled its 3D Map View feature, initially showcased at CES 2024, now accessible to SmartThings users worldwide. This feature, integrated into the SmartThings app, transforms real floor plans into virtual images, simplifying home management. Users gain a comprehensive view of their devices, enabling seamless adjustments to lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption from anywhere.
Managing the increasing array of connected devices in modern homes poses a challenge, which Map View addresses by providing a holistic view of the entire home and facilitating real-time updates as new devices connect. Unlike its predecessor, which offered a 2D model for homes with provided floor plans, the updated 3D Map View leverages Spatial AI technology found in Samsung devices, such as the Bespoke Jet Bot™, utilizing LiDAR sensors to accurately measure and map home layouts. This advancement allows users to grasp the spatial configuration of their homes more intuitively.
Furthermore, the feature’s filter function has been enhanced to enable more efficient device monitoring and control, with plans to introduce AI characters, unveiled at CES 2024, by year’s end, enhancing the personalized and user-friendly smart service experience.
Accessible via the SmartThings app on Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as TVs, and soon through additional hubs like Family Hub™ refrigerators, Map View was initially launched in Korea and the United States, extending its availability to all SmartThings-enabled countries.
Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, emphasized Samsung’s commitment to empowering customers with seamless control over their home devices, underscoring Map View as a testament to this dedication. Samsung’s ongoing collaboration with construction firms aims to expand Map View’s application beyond homes to apartments and office spaces, fostering smart environments globally. Future developments include optimizing user experiences for large screens and introducing Quick Control for easy access to key functions, catering to both consumers and B2B operators.
