NTT DATA Urges East Africa to Fortify Cybersecurity as AI Risks Rise

NTT DATA is advocating for a comprehensive reassessment of cybersecurity strategies by both public and private sectors in East Africa. This call is driven by the rising influence and potential risks of Generative Artificial Intelligence [Gen-AI], including misuse that could lead to intellectual property theft, privacy breaches, and misinformation. Peter Gitonga, the General Manager of Managed Services at NTT DATA East Africa, highlighted these concerns during the launch of the company’s new managed services in Nairobi.

Recent data from the Communication Authority of Kenya indicates a significant rise in cyberattacks, with a fivefold increase over the last year, underscoring the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures as the digital economy expands. These attacks primarily targeted state agencies, internet service providers, and educational institutions.

To counter these challenges, NTT DATA has introduced several solutions, including Managed Detection and Response [MDR], Digital Forensic & Incident Response [DFIR], and Managed Network Services [MNS]. These services, delivered through the Adaptive Cloud-to-Edge [ACE] platform, aim to improve cybersecurity management, cloud efficiency, and network performance, offering a holistic approach to tackling cyber threats and operational challenges.

Furthermore, the company has launched Managed Public Cloud services and Network as a Service [NaaS], which facilitate secure, efficient cloud computing and flexible network management, respectively. These innovations are designed to empower businesses in East Africa to leverage digital technology securely and effectively, enhancing competitiveness and operational resilience.

With a commitment to the region’s digital transformation, NTT DATA continues to invest in local partnerships and talent development, aiming to deliver tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of the East African market.
