PAIX Data Centres, in collaboration with the Djibouti Sovereign Fund, is launching a cloud- and carrier-neutral data center in Djibouti. This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing Africa’s digital infrastructure and demonstrates the partners’ dedication to promoting innovation and growth in the region.
The partnership combines PAIX’s industry expertise with the Djibouti Sovereign Fund’s local insights to provide top-tier data center services. Designed to meet Djibouti and East Africa’s specific needs, the facility will be a crucial interconnection hub for ISPs, cloud providers, financial institutions, and businesses seeking robust, scalable infrastructure for their digital operations.
“PAIX’s investment in JIB1 positions it at the crossroads of connectivity between Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The strong network hub that is created by the aggregation of multiple undersea cable landing points connecting to terrestrial cables makes Djibouti a highly attractive gateway. We have received strong interest from our connectivity, CDN, social media, and cloud customers seeking to serve the emerging markets that can be accessed by these cables. We plan to develop thriving magnetic cloud and content hubs in Djibouti.” says Wouter van Hulten, CEO PAIX Data Centres.
Djibouti’s connection to ten undersea cables, with more in development, positions the data center as a vital gateway for PAIX and its customers targeting emerging markets in the area.
PAIX will acquire the land, buildings, and data center equipment for the facility, which will feature approximately 50,000 square feet of usable space and up to 5 megawatts of critical power, with the initial phase set to open in 2026.
The PAIX Djibouti facility will be equipped with advanced cooling systems, redundant power supplies, and strong security measures to ensure high performance and reliability for essential applications and services. With its multi-megawatt capacity, the data center will address the varied requirements of clients across different sectors, helping them boost innovation and business growth.
PAIX Data Centres and the Djibouti Sovereign Fund are dedicated to providing top-quality data center solutions that meet customer needs and foster the development of Djibouti and the broader Horn of Africa region. PAIX already operates in Accra, Ghana, and Nairobi, Kenya.
