Safaricom has joined forces with Kitui County to unveil the MyCounty app platform, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at modernizing county services for enhanced efficiency and increased revenue collection. This innovative platform will encompass a wide array of services, including payment options for county services, revenue management systems, a citizen engagement and reporting tool, and tailored solutions in the domains of agriculture, healthcare, utility bills, and small and medium-sized enterprise [SME] programs.
At present, the MyCounty app is already serving over 400,000 users in the 11 counties that have embraced this digital transformation. These counties comprise Nairobi, Makueni, Kitui, Busia, Samburu, Bomet, Narok, Kilifi, Uasin Gishu, Kajiado, and Elgeyo Marakwet.
Nicholas Mulila, Chief Corporate Security Officer at Safaricom PLC, expressed pride in their partnership with Kitui County to extend the benefits of technology to its residents. He emphasized that this platform’s launch underscores their commitment to leveraging technology for the accessibility and convenience of county services, thereby advancing their mission to connect, empower, and enhance the lives of Kenyan citizens. Their vision is to enable counties to offer a one-stop shop for their services while enhancing service delivery cost-effectively.
The MyCounty App platform provides a comprehensive range of county services, including the convenience of making payments for parking, land rates, and single business permits. Furthermore, it empowers citizens to engage with county leadership, report incidents, and utilize the “Sema na Governor” feature, which facilitates direct communication with governors and enables feedback for the improvement of county services.
Dr. Julius Malombe, the Governor of Kitui County, recognized this day as a significant stride forward for Kitui County as they digitize their services to enhance accessibility and efficiency in service delivery. He believes that the MyCounty App platform will empower citizens to conveniently access essential county services while simultaneously augmenting their own source of revenue.
This launch underscores their dedication to enhancing residents’ lives through digitization and technology, and they extend their gratitude to Safaricom for their partnership and anticipate the positive impact of this innovation on their county.
Safaricom has ambitious plans to expand the MyCounty App platform to encompass all 47 counties in Kenya while tailoring the platform to the unique needs of each county. The app is accessible through various channels, including a mini-app on the M-PESA Super App, Android and iOS apps, a web interface, and a USSD short code.
