Safaricom, Vesen, and Anga Collaborate to Boost Movie Attendance via M-PESA app

Safaricom has formed a strategic partnership with Vesen and Anga to enhance the movie-going experience through a dedicated M-PESA Mini App. The Anga M-PESA Mini App, located within the M-PESA Super App, will offer movie schedules, booking, and ticketing services for Anga CBD, Anga Diamond, and Anga Sky theaters.

Anga’s Managing Director, Kenneth Kimutai, expressed excitement about partnering with Safaricom to offer M-PESA customers a convenient movie booking experience via the Anga Mini App.

The partnership targets M-PESA Super App’s 7.4 million users, enticing them with promotions and convenient app-based bookings to attract and sell more tickets.

John Ndungu, CEO of Vesen Computing, expressed pride in providing the technology that allows cinemas to connect with partners like the M-PESA Super App. He stated, “Our goal is to enhance customer satisfaction and reduce long queues in cinema halls by diversifying ticket sale points. This partnership signifies the beginning of building more technological bridges, and I commend our skilled technical team for their outstanding work.”

Anga is among 45+ Mini-Apps on M-PESA Super App, as businesses tap into M-PESA’s popularity to increase revenue and reach more customers. Safaricom handles the distribution and marketing for these businesses on the M-PESA Super App while earning transaction fees. As of March 2023, the number of businesses on Lipa Na M-PESA had surpassed 606,000, with transactions exceeding KSh. 1.6 trillion over the past year.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom, highlighted the value of the Anga M-PESA Mini App in enhancing convenience for movie-goers and driving customer footfall to cinemas. He said, “This partnership with Anga extends beyond providing movie tickets and brings us closer to our vision of making the M-PESA Super App a digital lifestyle enabler for our customers.”
