Samsung Electronics and Corning Incorporated have announced their collaboration to incorporate Corning’s innovative Gorilla Armor cover material into the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones. This new material is designed to offer unmatched durability and clarity, ensuring that the device’s display remains vivid in sunlight and more resistant to everyday damage.
Kwangjin Bae, a top executive at Samsung, highlighted the significant strides in durability this partnership has fostered, enabling users to rely on their devices more confidently. Gorilla Armor stands out from ordinary glass by significantly reducing glare, improving screen visibility under various lighting conditions, and offering enhanced protection against scratches. In tests, Gorilla Armor was found to be much more durable and scratch-resistant than other glass types, with a unique “Scratch Bot” test confirming its superior resistance to everyday wear without any visible scratches.
Moreover, Gorilla Armor is environmentally conscious, containing 25% recycled content certified by UL Solutions. David Velasquez of Corning emphasized that this innovation reflects Corning’s commitment to research and engineering, matched by Samsung’s dedication to design and user experience. The technology not only meets the demand for more durable materials but also improves the visual performance of smartphone screens.
The introduction of the Galaxy S24 Ultra with Gorilla Armor celebrates a 50-year partnership between Samsung and Corning, a relationship that began with making televisions more accessible in Korea and has evolved to include advanced materials in numerous Samsung devices. This long-term collaboration has been instrumental in bringing cutting-edge technology to the consumer electronics market, with Gorilla Armor being the latest example of their joint efforts to enhance the mobile phone experience.
