Sophos Launches New Remotely Managed Wi-Fi 6 Access Points for Hybrid Environments

Sophos, a renowned global leader in the realm of cybersecurity innovation and service delivery, has introduced the Sophos AP6 Series. This cutting-edge offering is designed to support the transition to hybrid environments and comprises a new generation of Wi-Fi 6 access points, all remotely managed. This addition enhances Sophos’ secure access portfolio, complementing existing products like Sophos Firewall and Sophos Switch.

According to Daniel Cole, Vice President of Product Management at Sophos, the introduction of cloud-managed Wi-Fi addresses the growing demand for scalable, remotely managed Wi-Fi solutions. These solutions are essential in accommodating the ever-expanding array of connected devices and the proliferation of IoT systems. By combining the Sophos AP6 Series with Sophos Switches, channel partners gain access to a unified access solution strategy from a single vendor, simplifying the management process and reducing overhead costs associated with juggling disparate systems from different providers.

Many access layer networks still operate at 1 Gigabit speeds, but Wi-Fi 6’s significant performance improvements present an opportunity to review and modernize wireless network ecosystems. Sophos’ solution effectively eliminates a common bottleneck at the physical layer, potentially enhancing a company’s Wi-Fi infrastructure’s overall network performance.

The Sophos AP6 models, including the 420E, AP6 840, AP6 840E, and the outdoor AP6 420X, feature at least one built-in 2.5 Gigabit interface, delivering accelerated LAN connectivity. When paired with Sophos multi-Gigabit switches, which also support 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, organizations can unlock faster speeds throughout their entire network. Moreover, the AP6 420E and 840E devices, with their support for Wi-Fi 6E, enable companies to leverage the 6 GHz band, a newer and less congested spectrum that offers high performance for the latest devices.

Sophos access points can be efficiently managed through the cloud-based Sophos Central platform. This platform supports a broader range of solutions than any other vendor, enabling partners to oversee all customer installations, respond to alerts, and monitor licenses and upcoming renewal dates via a single, user-friendly interface. Additionally, there is an on-premises interface available for administrators to configure on-AP settings as needed.

The Sophos AP6 Series is now available for immediate purchase, exclusively through Sophos’ global network of partners and managed service providers [MSPs]. This launch marks a significant step in Sophos’ ongoing commitment to providing top-tier cybersecurity solutions and support to businesses worldwide.
