Kaspersky has released insights into global online subscription habits, based on data from the SubsCrab app, a subscription management tool designed to help users track and manage online subscriptions. The report reveals that the average consumer maintains 12 online subscriptions, with popular services like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube Premium leading globally, though local services such as Brazil’s Globoplay also dominate in certain regions.

Streaming services account for the largest category, with 22% of users subscribing to platforms for TV and movies. Multi-subscription bundles, which offer combined access to TV, games, Internet, and telecom, are rapidly gaining traction, attracting 16% of customers. Other significant subscription categories include productivity tools and telecom, with popular choices like Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva among the top 20 in many countries.

ChatGPT Soars in Global Subscriptions

The report highlights ChatGPT as the fastest-growing subscription service worldwide, up by 296% from 2023, followed by YouTube Premium [122%] and Telegram Premium [73%]. Despite their popularity, Netflix, YouTube Premium, and Spotify are also the most frequently cancelled subscriptions, indicating users’ evolving preferences.

Financially, monthly payments remain the standard choice for 76% of users, while annual subscriptions have risen from 13% in 2022 to 17% in 2024. The global average yearly cost of online subscriptions is $938, with Türkiye offering the lowest rates, such as $5 per month for Netflix Premium, compared to the UK’s highest average monthly subscription price at $13.
