Airtel Africa Reinforces ESG with 2025 Report

Airtel Africa has released its Sustainability Report 2025, reaffirming its commitment to digital inclusion, financial empowerment, and environmental responsibility.

The report showcases the company’s progress in bridging the digital divide and supporting underserved communities across its markets. In FY 2024/25, Airtel Africa deepened its investment in network expansion, people, and sustainable practices to transform lives and enable inclusive growth.

“Connecting over 2,000 schools and empowering millions through Airtel Money this year proves that technology drives meaningful change,” said Sunil Taldar, CEO of Airtel Africa. “We are actively expanding networks and building pathways to education, financial security, and opportunity.”

Key Highlights from the 2025 Report:
Expanding Access to Connectivity

Airtel now covers 81.2% of the population, up from 80.4% last year, with over 36,000 4G sites including 15,300 in rural areas. A $670 million investment bolstered network speed and capacity.

Driving Financial Inclusion

Airtel Money reached 44.6 million customers [+17.3%], nearly achieving gender parity, with 44.2% of users being women. Its agent network grew to 1.7 million [+23.4%].

Empowering Communities

2,176 schools were connected to the internet free of charge, and data users rose to 73.4 million [+14.1%]. The company continues to support youth education and employment across its footprint.

Environmental Stewardship

Airtel transitioned 500 off-grid sites to on-grid power, reducing diesel use. Waste recycling reached 93% [+3% from last year].

The 2025 sustainability report aligns with Global Reporting Initiative [GRI] and GSMA industry standards, reinforcing Airtel Africa’s role in delivering sustainable impact at scale.
