TECNO MegaPad SE, Budget AI Tablet

TECNO has launched its MegaPad SE tablet in Kenya, adding a new option to the growing market for affordable smart devices. Priced at KES 18,999, the tablet targets families, students and professionals looking for a single device that supports work, learning and entertainment.

The MegaPad SE reflects a wider push by smartphone brands to bring artificial intelligence tools to lower-cost devices in Africa. Rather than positioning the tablet as a luxury product, TECNO is aiming at everyday use, with features designed to simplify tasks and improve productivity.

Introducing Ella: The Power of AI at Your Fingertips

At the centre of the device is Ella, TECNO’s built-in AI voice assistant. Activated through a side button, Ella helps users rewrite text, summarise long documents and check grammar. These tools are intended to support emails, schoolwork and daily communication.

Language support is another key focus. The tablet includes translation tools that work across text, images and live conversations, covering more than 50 languages. This could appeal to users who work or study in multilingual settings, or who rely on messaging apps for business and social interaction. Creative users can also generate simple graphics using an AI art feature built into the device.

On the hardware side, the MegaPad SE comes with an 11-inch FHD+ display and a 90Hz refresh rate, designed for smoother viewing during reading, video streaming and online classes. The screen carries TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification, which TECNO says helps reduce eye strain during long use.

The tablet runs on a Qualcomm eight-core processor and includes an 8,000mAh battery, offering up to 15 hours of video playback. Storage stands at 256GB, expandable to 512GB, allowing room for apps, files and media. An optional keyboard and stylus aim to turn the tablet into a light work or study tool.

The MegaPad SE is now available through authorised TECNO retail outlets across Kenya, as competition intensifies in the entry-level tablet market.
