While AI will automate certain tasks, it will also create new opportunities and redefine the nature of work. The key challenge is not job loss but adapting to an evolving employment landscape.

AI is already reshaping multiple sectors. In customer service, chatbots handle inquiries, while in healthcare, AI assists in diagnostics. The entertainment industry leverages AI for content recommendations and editing. In Kenya, Multichoice is leading AI adoption to improve customer experiences and streamline operations.
Repetitive roles in industries such as manufacturing, retail, and transportation face the highest risk of automation. However, similar concerns existed during past technological shifts, such as the Industrial Revolution and the rise of the internet. These advancements led to new job opportunities in emerging fields, proving that innovation creates as many jobs as it disrupts. AI’s impact will be no different—new industries and roles will emerge, requiring workers to develop new skill sets.
The Shift Toward Human-Centric Roles
As AI handles routine and data-intensive tasks, human workers can focus on areas that require creativity, empathy, and complex decision-making. AI may diagnose medical conditions, but it cannot replace the human touch needed for patient care. Similarly, while AI can assist in filmmaking by improving editing processes, it lacks the cultural understanding to craft compelling narratives.
