Airtel Africa announced the significant achievements of its five-year partnership with UNICEF, aimed at transforming education across 13 African countries. Since its launch in 2021, the partnership has connected over 1,500 schools to the internet, trained 17,000 teachers, and provided nearly one million students with quality digital education resources.
The initiative, part of Airtel Africa’s $57 million commitment, focuses on bridging the digital divide and improving access to education for vulnerable children, particularly in remote areas. Key efforts include providing zero-rated access to educational platforms and equipping teachers with the skills needed to utilize digital tools.
Airtel Africa CEO, Sunil Taldar, highlighted the impact of the program during World Children’s Day, saying, “Through our collaboration with UNICEF, we are empowering Africa’s children and teachers with the tools and skills needed to thrive in a digital world. This partnership is a step toward bridging the digital divide and ensuring educational equality.”
The initiative spans Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia, offering transformative opportunities for students and teachers in underserved communities.
Airtel Africa is a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries in Africa, primarily in East Africa and Central and West Africa.
