Sama, a leader in data annotation and model evaluation for major AI models, announced a strategic partnership with the University of Nairobi [UoN] to advance the Generative AI [GenAI] industry in Kenya.
Through this partnership, UoN students and faculty will gain exposure to the GenAI field via part-time jobs with Sama. Sama will provide necessary training, equipment, materials, and workspaces.
Prof. Stephen Kiama, UoN Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the collaboration’s importance, stating it offers students a platform to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings, enhancing their learning and preparation for the AI industry.
This partnership aligns with UoN’s plans to establish an Artificial Intelligence School to create skilled manpower for the future.
Annepeace Alwala, Sama Vice President of Global Service Delivery, expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting its role in fostering AI talent in Kenya and contributing to the technology sector’s growth.
This initiative supports the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda [BeTA], aiming to bridge the digital divide, uplift communities, nurture talent, and position Kenya in the global AI value chain.
