EFT Corporation [EFTCorp] has partnered with Women in Payments Africa [WIPA] as a sponsor and strategic ally. This reinforces its dedication to empowering women and advancing gender diversity in the payments industry. This collaboration supports WIPA’s mission to amplify women’s voices and create a more inclusive digital payments ecosystem where women can lead, innovate, and thrive.
Founded in January 2024 by prominent industry leaders, including Ghita Erling [PASA], Karen Nadasen [PayU], Chipo Mushwana [Nedbank], Ethel Nyembe [CYBER1 Solutions], and Kim Dancey [Yoco]. WIPA aims to champion female leadership and gender parity in the payments sector. The organization fosters collaboration among accomplished women to support the next generation and drive transformative change.
The Need for Representation
Despite strides in financial technology, gender disparities persist. For instance, only 37% of women in Sub-Saharan Africa have bank accounts compared to 48% of men. Increasing female representation at decision-making levels is essential to creating financial products. These products are tailored to address women’s needs and support their economic inclusion.
Driving Change Through Collaboration
Chipo Mushwana, WIPA co-founder and Nedbank’s Executive of Emerging Innovation and Payments, highlights the importance of African women’s unique perspectives in shaping solutions tailored to the continent’s diverse financial landscape. “As African women, we deeply understand our entrepreneurial environment, enabling us to drive meaningful change,” she says.
“Uniting experienced women in payments unlocks transformative strategies to empower the unbanked and drive Africa’s digital economy forward.” Says Lee Ziervogel, EFTCorp’s Chief Operating Officer and newly appointed WIPA Ambassador.
EFTCorp’s Role
