Yasemin Bedir to Lead Mastercard’s 81-Market Region

Mastercard has named Yasemin Bedir president of Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, placing a veteran executive in charge of 81 markets spanning established payment systems and fast-growing digital economies.

The appointment takes effect 1st September as payment companies face different regulations, rising cyber risks, rapid fintech growth and demand for simpler cross-border commerce.

Why EEMEA Leadership Matters

EEMEA covers markets with very different needs. Some are expanding contactless payments and digital wallets. Others focus on mobile money, financial access and small-business acceptance.

Mastercard’s EEMEA president must therefore balance a global network with local rules, consumer habits and economic conditions.

Yasemin Bedir will be based in the United Arab Emirates and will join Mastercard’s Management Committee. She succeeds Dimitrios Dosis, who has become chief commercial payments officer, overseeing Commercial and New Payment Flows.

She joined Mastercard in 2007 and spent the past four years leading Eastern Europe through a difficult geopolitical and regulatory period. Earlier roles included managing Turkey and Azerbaijan and overseeing payment processor relationships in North America.

Before joining Mastercard, Yasemin Bedir worked at HSBC, Garanti Bank and Yapı Kredi in Turkey.

Yasemin Bedir Faces an 81-Market Payments Test

“This is a vast and complex region that demands creative thinking, proven results and strong relationships,” said Sachin Mehra, Mastercard’s chief business officer.

The challenge is serving markets that share geography but differ widely in infrastructure, regulation and customer behaviour.

Yasemin Bedir’s experience across several markets offers continuity, but results will matter more than her résumé. Success will be measured by safer payments, easier regional commerce, practical tools for small businesses and regulator relationships.

Bedir’s test will be adapting quickly without weakening security, compliance or customer trust.
