Carrefour, operated in Kenya by Majid Al Futtaim, is marking its ninth anniversary by rolling out innovations that make shopping faster, smarter and more inclusive. Since 2016 the retailer has grown to 29 outlets, partnered with 690 local suppliers and created 2,800 jobs, strengthening Kenya’s modern trade ecosystem. As they celebrate 9 years of innovation, Carrefour is rewarding Kenyans with KES 20M through “Yetu Tisa, Wako Milele” price tags on local products.

Friction-Free Shopping
Kenya’s first cashless self-checkout lanes launched at the Hub branch in 2024 and now serve eight stores, cutting queue times by up to 40 per cent and letting staff focus on customer care. Their app on the other hand links inventory to online orders, serves personalised promotions through MyCLUB and delivers within two hours in Nairobi and Mombasa. Replenishment algorithms have reduced stock-outs by 30 per cent. The same platform supports click-and-collect in six branches, giving shoppers full control over when they receive their purchases.
Smart Stores Powered by AI
Computer-vision screens from Advertima deliver context-aware offers that lift participating brand sales by up to 18 per cent while surfacing instant savings for shoppers. Digital shelves also refresh prices, protecting customers from surprise mark-ups.
Opened in December 2024, Carrefour’s Retail Business School in Nairobi will train 1,500 colleagues and suppliers yearly in digital merchandising, leadership and technical operations, creating a pipeline of Kenyan professionals for data-driven retail.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “Innovation only matters when it improves daily life. These advances, built with Kenyan talent and partners, ensure every visit to Carrefour is quicker, richer and better value.”
“Yetu Tisa, Wako Milele”: Giving Back to the Customers Who Built Us
To thank the communities that welcomed Carrefour nine years ago, the retailer is investing more than KES 20 million in a nationwide birthday campaign running 26th May to 12th June. Over 3,000 shoppers will instantly win the value of their carts through an in-store “Spin the Wheel.” Customers who spend KES 1,000 or more on featured brands enter a draw for a Suzuki Alto worth KES 1.3 million, to be awarded on 13 June.
During the period, all stores and the Carrefour App offer up to 50 per cent off groceries, electronics and home essentials. Limited-edition “Yetu Tisa, Wako Milele” price tags spotlight local products, reinforcing Carrefour’s commitment to Kenyan farmers, manufacturers and SMEs. Social-media challenges and in-store photo booths invite families to share anniversary memories, extending the celebration beyond checkout.
