Bolt was the most downloaded travel app in Kenya in 2025. This underlines the continued shift toward app-based transport and delivery services in the country.
Data from digital intelligence firm Sensor Tower shows Kenya is one of 23 markets where Bolt led travel and mobility app downloads during the year. The figures were compiled across 2025 and reflect consumer demand rather than revenue or trip volumes.
Kenya remains a key market for the global shared mobility platform, which launched locally in 2017. Bolt now operates in more than 10 urban centres, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nyeri. Its services range from ride-hailing to food and grocery delivery through Bolt Food and Bolt Market, as well as corporate transport via Bolt Business.

The ranking comes at a time when Kenya’s urban population is growing, congestion remains a challenge, and many commuters are looking for predictable and flexible transport options. Ride-hailing has also become more common outside major cities, driven by smartphone access and mobile payments.
Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt’s Senior General Manager for East Africa, said the growth reflects strong user confidence. “More Kenyans are choosing Bolt because they see value in accessible and reliable mobility,” she said, adding that the company is focused on expanding to more cities and improving the app experience.

Women and young people were more likely to cite safety as a key reason for use.
Beyond transport, the company recorded its fastest growth in the region, with orders rising by more than 300%. Corporate travel services have also expanded as companies seek to manage staff transport more efficiently.
Globally, Bolt reported strong performance in 2025, with revenue exceeding €2.3 billion and operations remaining cashflow positive, even as competition in mobility and delivery intensifies.
