Bolttech has acquired mTek, a digital insurance platform, marking a major step in the global insurtech group’s push into East Africa. The deal strengthens Bolttech’s embedded insurance capabilities while giving mTek a broader stage for its technology and market insight.
Founded in 2019, mTek offers a paperless insurance experience that allows customers to compare, buy, and manage policies through a single digital platform. The company works with leading insurers such as GA Insurance, Sanlam, and Britam. It has also been building partnerships that widen financial access in the region. This includes a recent collaboration with Mastercard to bring embedded insurance solutions to more users across East Africa.
Bolttech plans to scale mTek’s technology across its global insurance ecosystem. The company says the acquisition blends local expertise with its wider distribution network. It strengthens its ability to deliver simple, accessible protection products.

Partnership Aims to Accelerate Digital Insurance Access in the Region
“This is an exciting step forward as we expand our footprint in Africa.” Said Stephan Tan, CEO for EMEA at Bolttech. “mTek’s platform and talented team share our mission to make protection more accessible. Together, we can speed up digital change in the insurance sector and extend the reach of embedded protection across the region.”
mTek CEO Bente Krogmann said the partnership opens a new phase of growth for the Kenyan startup. “Our technology and focus on inclusive insurance have changed how customers access protection in Kenya. Joining Bolttech allows us to scale that impact and bring more relevant solutions to customers across markets,” she said.
mTek’s leadership team will continue to manage operations in East Africa to ensure continuity for customers, partners, and employees. The company will also adopt a new brand identity as part of its integration into Bolttech.
Both companies say they are working closely to ensure a smooth transition as they combine teams, technology, and market strategies.
