Physical Security as a Strategic Business Engine

Genetec Inc. has released its sixth annual State of Physical Security Report 2026, offering a clear view of how companies around the world are redefining the role of physical security. Drawn from responses by more than 7,300 security leaders, the report shows the industry shifting from simply guarding assets to enabling smarter, faster business decisions.

The Genetec 2026 report reveal that physical security teams are now working more closely with other departments. Many organizations see security systems as tools that strengthen operations, not just protect buildings. This shift is reshaping investments, leadership priorities, and technology choices.

Modernization is Accelerating as Demand for Unified Systems Grows

One major trend is modernization. Over 70% of respondents say they already use unified or integrated systems. Sixty percent cite the need to add new capabilities as their top reason for replacing outdated tools. The focus is on flexible systems that share data across teams and improve operational awareness.

Vendor selection is also changing. Long-term stability now ranks as the most important factor for end users, with 73% saying they prefer providers who can support long-term upgrades and deliver reliable product development. Performance and pricing follow behind, highlighting a steady move toward future-proof partnerships.

AI continues to gain momentum. For the first time, it ranks alongside access control and video surveillance as a top priority for 2026. Adoption interest has doubled since last year. Yet concerns remain: 70% of respondents want more clarity on how AI tools handle data and make decisions. Organizations appear ready to embrace AI, but only with transparent design and responsible use.

According to the Genetec 2026 Report, cloud adoption is rising as well, particularly hybrid models that let teams balance on-premises control with cloud convenience. End users point to automatic updates, faster deployment, and easier maintenance as key benefits.

Looking ahead to 2026, organizations expect to focus on access control upgrades, stronger cybersecurity, and deeper use of analytics. With growing pressure to do more with less, physical security appears set to become an even more central part of enterprise strategy.
