Glovo Partners with NTSA to Boost Rider Safety and Financial Literacy

Kenya’s road safety drive received a boost this week after Glovo partnered with the National Transport and Safety Authority [NTSA] to launch a new rider-focused safety program.

The initiative introduces a voluntary in-app Road Safety feature designed to help delivery riders track and improve their riding habits.

Organisers announced the feature at an event attended by representatives from the Boda Boda Safety Association of Kenya, the Nairobi County Government, and the Kenya Police Service, highlighting a joint effort to address rising safety concerns among motorcycle riders.

Glovo & NTSA, a Technology-Led Push for Safer Roads

The new feature allows riders to opt in and receive real-time feedback on their riding patterns. It reviews speed trends, braking, and acceleration. Riders are then given a personalised safety score, aimed at encouraging safer decisions on the road.

Caroline Mutuku, General Manager for Glovo Kenya, said the goal is to give riders better visibility into their behaviour without limiting their flexibility or earnings. The tool is designed to identify risky patterns and provide simple, practical guidance.

Motorcycle riders remain among Kenya’s most vulnerable road users. They often operate in heavy traffic, around pedestrians, public service vehicles and trucks, and through high-risk roundabouts.

Training, Regulation and Financial Support

As part of the rollout between Glovo & NTSA. NTSA conducted a two-hour road safety training session for riders using the platform. The training covered traffic laws, defensive riding and accident prevention. Nairobi County Police also introduced the Boda Management System, allowing riders to formally register and strengthen compliance.

Riders who completed the session received NTSA certificates.

Beyond safety, the program included financial literacy sessions on forming SACCOs, delivered in partnership with Pioneer Insurance. Organisers say the aim is to improve both road discipline and long-term financial security.

The Safety feature is now available to riders who choose to activate it.
