NTSA, NPS Join Bolt for Driver Safety Initiative

Bolt today reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and professional mobility services by hosting a high-impact Safety Training Workshop for drivers and couriers on its platform. The event, held in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority – NTSA, National Police Service – NPS, and the Nairobi City County Government – NCCG, represents a pivotal step in aligning Bolt’s operations with national transport safety priorities.

This strategic initiative brought together key mobility stakeholders to promote safe, compliant, and responsible transport practices, while strengthening Bolt’s collaborative ties with both regulators and the gig economy workforce.

“At Bolt, safety is not a feature, it’s our foundation,” said Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager, Rides, Kenya. “We continuously invest in innovative tools and partnerships to protect our users. This summit reflects our deep commitment to empowering drivers and couriers with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed safely in today’s fast-evolving transport landscape.”

Practical, Regulator-Aligned Training for Safer Roads

The comprehensive workshop featured expert-led sessions on:

  • Adherence to Kenyan traffic laws and NTSA regulations
  • Behavioural and professional conduct
  • Personal safety protocols for ride-hailing and food delivery
  • Efficient use of the Bolt app and rider/courier etiquette
  • Basic first aid and emergency response skills

The training also encouraged the adoption of safety-enhancing innovations. For example consistent helmet use, in-app emergency tools, and optimized routing for safer, faster deliveries.

Dr. Frederick Ochieng, Traffic Commandant, Nairobi Police Service, remarked: “Safe driving saves lives — it’s that simple. This workshop elevates our joint efforts with platforms like Bolt to embed a culture of safety and accountability.”

A Model for Public-Private Transport Partnerships

Government officials and stakeholders hailed the initiative as a model for public-private collaboration in modern urban mobility.

Mr. Ibrahim Nyangoya, CECM, Mobility and Works, NCCG, stated: “This summit couldn’t have come at a better time. As app-based mobility becomes part of daily life in Nairobi, safety must be at the core. Bolt’s leadership in hosting this training signals a shared vision for a safer, more professional transport future.”

Mr. Samuel Musumba, Manager, Road Safety Programs, NTSA, added: “We aim to cut road deaths by 50% by year-end. That’s only possible with real cooperation. Bolt’s proactive role shows what meaningful partnership looks like in action.”
