Vertiv will supply critical infrastructure for Nxtra by Airtel Africa’s new data centre in Nigeria. The first phase of a multi-country buildout aimed at creating one of Africa’s largest high-capacity data centre networks.
Nxtra will deliver the 42MW Nigerian facility in four phases and expects it to be fully operational by 2028. Under the agreement, Vertiv will provide thermal management and uninterruptible power supply [UPS] systems with batteries. It will oversee commissioning and handover, and deliver five years of maintenance supported by its service team in Nigeria.

“This next chapter in our collaboration combines local support in Africa with international manufacturing and innovation.” Said Karsten Winther, president for EMEA at Vertiv.
“As we invest in high-capacity, high-quality data centres for Africa. We need partners with global capabilities and a strong local presence,” said Yash Issur, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel Africa. “Vertiv has been named a main vendor for the first project in Nigeria as we extend our collaboration from India to Africa.”
Wojtek Piorko, Vertiv’s managing director for Africa, noted that rising demand from a growing, data-intensive population is accelerating infrastructure needs: “Our work with Nxtra marks an important step in strengthening Africa’s digital backbone, starting in Nigeria.”
Beyond Nigeria, Vertiv and Nxtra are advancing additional projects across Airtel Africa’s markets, with a Nairobi-based site anticipated to surpass the Nigerian facility in scale as plans progress over the next three years.
