TECNO Kenya Portrait Stories Put People Over Specs

TECNO has wrapped up the Kenyan chapter of 100 Portraits of Becoming, a global project created with Brazilian photographer Angélica Dass. Twenty Kenyans were photographed using the CAMON 50 Ultra. Each one shown in the real places where their work and daily life happen. What stands out here is not the camera itself. It is how firmly the spotlight stays on the people in front of it. TECNO Kenya portrait stories lead with names, choices and setbacks rather than technical specifications.

The People Behind the TECNO Kenya Portrait Stories

Alex Muli, co-founder of Goshen Farm, chose to stay in his hometown. He built opportunity through agriculture instead of leaving, as many around him did. “When everyone said leave, I stayed,” he said, describing how he connected small farmers to new markets. Jelimo Cheboi, co-founder of GirlSkate Nairobi, helped create a safer space for girls to learn skateboarding and belong to a community. The collection also features Anita Mbithe of Brushes By Mbithee and Brian Muchiri, founder of Boy in The Wheelchair. His presence spoke to disability and representation.

What the Camera Technology Actually Does

Behind these portraits sits Universal Tone 3.0, CAMON 50’s tool for rendering skin tone more naturally across different complexions and lighting. In simple terms, it helps the camera capture people accurately whether they are in bright sun, shade or mixed indoor light. The goal is not a single beauty standard, but keeping each person recognizable as themselves across varied conditions. That distinction matters for TECNO Kenya portrait stories in particular, since skin tones and everyday lighting vary enormously from one setting to the next.

Kenya opens a two-year project that will eventually cover the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Brazil as well. Each chapter will keep documenting people within their own environments rather than a controlled studio. TECNO Kenya portrait stories now offer a reminder that becoming something rarely happens in one visible moment, and a camera can only show part of that journey.
