This November, YouVersion celebrates a remarkable milestone one billion device installs across its family of Bible apps. What began as a simple idea in an airport security line has grown into one of the world’s most downloaded faith-based platforms, reflecting a surging global appetite for Scripture and the growing role of technology in meeting spiritual needs.
The milestone caps a record-breaking year for the platform. Global installs have risen by 12% year-over-year, while daily usage has surged 18%. The YouVersion family of apps, now used in every country, records one billion app opens every 39 days, underscoring deepening engagement with the Bible worldwide.

“We’re seeing incredible global momentum around Bible engagement,” said Bobby Gruenewald, Founder and CEO of YouVersion. “This milestone is really a celebration of the Bible itself and what happens when people around the world work together to share it.”
Across Africa, YouVersion has seen more than 37 million installs this year 27.7 million of which came through Bible App Lite, a data-light version tailored for regions with connectivity challenges. Available in over 2,300 languages, including Swahili, Zulu, and Afrikaans, the app helps millions access Scripture in their heart language.
“There’s a powerful movement happening across Africa,” said Joseph Gachira, YouVersion Hub Leader in Kenya. “People are engaging deeply with Scripture, no matter where they are.”
In November, YouVersion joins partners including Glorify, Hallow, and The Bible Project to launch Global Bible Month, encouraging daily Scripture reading through a 30-Day Bible Challenge. A global celebration at Oklahoma City’s Paycom Center on November 17 will bring together Christian leaders, artists, and organizations to honor the milestone and look ahead to the future of Bible engagement worldwide.
