YouVersion, the maker of the widely used Bible App, saw record activity during Holy Week, with an average of 18.7 million people engaging with the Bible each day across its family of apps. On Easter Sunday, that figure climbed to more than 21.6 million, making it the highest-engagement day in the platform’s history and a new Easter record.
The numbers point to a broader rise in digital faith habits, especially during key moments on the Christian calendar. According to YouVersion, all 10 of the highest Bible engagement days in its history have taken place in 2026, following the milestone of one billion installs across its app family last year.

Africa Emerges As a Key Growth Market During Holy Week
Holy Week engagement rose 15% globally compared to the same period last year, with every world region posting gains. Sub-Saharan Africa stood out with 37% year-on-year growth, while Latin America recorded a 22% increase.
Several African countries saw Easter Sunday become the top day for Bible engagement, including Uganda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. In Kenya, however, Palm Sunday ranked first, with Easter Sunday coming in second.
YouVersion also said Bible App Lite, its version built for offline use, ranked among the most downloaded apps in several African markets this year. On Easter Sunday alone, it hit the number one spot in nine African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kenya Reflects a Wider Shift in YouVersion Scripture Use
The Kenyan data also showed how Bible reading patterns are changing around Easter. In 2025, the most shared or highlighted verse during Holy Week in Kenya was John 15:13. In 2026, that shifted to Matthew 28:6: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”
Joseph Gachira, YouVersion’s Kenya Hub Leader, said the Easter spike reflects both local and global momentum, as more people turn to Scripture for hope, direction, and understanding. The platform now offers the Bible in more than 2,400 languages and over 3,750 translations, alongside videos and reading plans developed with ministry partners worldwide.
