Microsoft reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a responsible and inclusive digital economy in Kenya through AI-driven solutions and policies. Speaking at the Microsoft AI Tour conference in Nairobi, Phyllis Migwi, Country Manager at Microsoft Kenya, emphasized the importance of policies and regulations that facilitate AI adoption while ensuring ethical and secure implementation.
“In our engagements with both previous and current governments, one of the key areas we identified is data policy. It plays a significant role in growing Kenya’s digital economy. Today, we are excited to hear from the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications & The Digital Economy, Willian Kabogo that a draft AI policy is ready. In addition to the technology companies, stakeholders including private sector having an opportunity to shape its final framework,” said Migwi.
Microsoft adheres to stringent AI standards and policies. The company ensures that AI technologies are built with security, trust, and ethical use in mind. As part of its efforts to promote AI governance, Microsoft has also introduced AI skilling sessions to educate stakeholders on AI regulation and responsible implementation.

- Mental Wellness – A partnership with Kenya Red Cross to develop an AI-powered chatbot that provides private and accessible mental health support.
- Healthcare Accessibility – Leveraging AI to break language barriers in Kenya’s multilingual healthcare system, ensuring equitable medical access for all citizens.
- Assistive Technologies – AI solutions that empower persons with disabilities through inclusive education, supported by Microsoft’s collaboration with Airband for connectivity.
“AI is not just about technological advancement; it’s about creating opportunities and bridging gaps. Whether in healthcare, education, or accessibility, AI must be inclusive,” added Migwi. “We are confident that the upcoming AI regulations will safeguard both consumers and providers while fostering innovation.”
